Six Month Smiles

Making your smile one to be proud of with fast yet discreet teeth straightening

Always wanted to have your teeth straightened but have been put off by how long orthodontics treatment can take? Six Months Smiles is perfect for straightening troublesome teeth in your smile in a matter of months, not years.

Six Months Smiles use braces to gently guide your teeth to a much more optimum position. Unlike traditional metal braces, Six Months Smiles makes use of clear plastic brackets and tooth-coloured wires. These discreet braces are much more discreet and, as they are fixed, they continuously get to work on moving your teeth.

Like all braces, these discreet clear braces work through applying force through the wires that are attached to brackets fixed on your teeth. Throughout the treatment, we see you for regular appointments to tighten and adjust the wires so that the forces are always at work.

Our digital approach to Six Months Smiles

At TwentyOneDental, we use world leading digital technology to capture an accurate 3D scan of your mouth to plan your treatment. We can preview your smile, showing the progress your smile will make towards a straighter, neater goal. The scans also guide our treatment with where we place the brackets on your teeth and give us a more accurate time-scale. While most cases take six months, sometimes it can take a couple more months to encourage the more stubborn teeth into their new position.

How do we straighten teeth with Six Month Smiles at TwentyOneDental?

We will first need to check your general oral health before we start on your treatment. We also encourage that you have an appointment with the hygienist so your teeth are as clean and problem-free as possible. We want to make sure your teeth and gums are completely healthy throughout the treatment.

Taking scans and fitting the braces

For the first appointment, we take your digital scans and fit your braces in one day. Once we have a digital file of your treatment, we can map out the stages and arrange when we will need to see your throughout the six months to adjust the wires and keep an eye on your general progress.

We fit the braces by drying each tooth in turn and applying the brackets using a dental adhesive. Once dried and secure, we add the tooth-coloured wires, fixing them in place. We talk you through how to care for your braces and provide you with a care kit.

Progressing on the treatment

It’s really important that you keep your braces clean and well-looked after while you have them on. You will need to brush your teeth after every meal to keep them clear of food debris. Braces are perfect places for bacteria to congregate and cause issues for your teeth if not cleaned properly.

If at any time a wire breaks off or a bracket comes loose, get in touch with us. We will aim to see you as soon as possible to fix the issue so your treatment isn’t delayed in any way.

We will see you regularly to make adjustments to your braces so that the gentle forces moving your teeth are always at work.

Removing the braces and retaining your straight smile

It’s always an exciting time when we remove the braces. The first thing we do once the braces are off is to fetch the mirror and see your new smile properly. We will then get to work on keeping your smile perfect. We’ll take scans of your newly straightened teeth and use the scans to have a retainer made. Retainers can either be a clear mould that you wear at night or a fixed wire placed out of sight behind your front teeth.

FAQs

Can I have Six Months Smiles?

As long as you have a healthy set of teeth and no periodontal issues, you should be suitable for Six Months Smiles braces. We offer free consultations at our clinic where we talk through the procedure in detail, show you what your teeth will look like at the end of the process and answer any questions you have about the treatment we offer. We can also check your dental history and see if there are any issues that could prevent you from having braces.

Six Months Smiles is perfectly suited for adults who wish to have their teeth straightened. While orthodontic treatment is more effective during the teenage years, this short-term straightening system is available for patients of all ages.

Can I see what my teeth would look like before I start treatment?

With the use of our leading digital scanning systems, yes of course you can. Together, we design your smile and make it a reality.

Why might my treatment take longer than six months?

The average treatment time for the straightening system is six months, however sometimes it may take longer to achieve the end result. If some of your teeth need to move a significant distance, they will need more time than other teeth that only need to straighten up. The longest it will take is at least nine months. If your teeth need longer to move, it may be best to look into a straighten system better equipped for the issue. As a specialist referral centre, we can always arrange for our in-house specialist orthodontist to chat to you about the alternative options we have, just as many other patients have found out and proceeded with treatment - leading to achieving the smile they always wanted.

Why do I still need to see a dentist for a check up?

Even with your visits to have your braces adjusted, you will still need to maintain your dental health check-ups. A healthy smile responds best to straightening. Hygiene appointments are also essential to make sure your braces are bacteria-free and your gums free from gum disease.

Do I need to wear a retainer?

Yes. After your treatment, your jaw bone will need time to settle. Without a retainer, your teeth will shift back into their previous misaligned position and undo all the braces’ hard work. We will provide you with a retainer when your treatment concludes and all the information you need to keep your smile straight.

Recently, dentists agree that it’s best to keep making use of your retainer after the recommended few months. Our teeth naturally come out of position as we get older, whether or not if we have had braces. Wearing your retainer will keep your teeth from naturally shifting so you will stay with a perfectly straight smile for as long as you keep your retainer.
