Taking Care of Mouthguards

Twenty One dental clinic dentist Brighton Hove

Like any protective equipment, mouthguards need to be looked after in order to function properly. When not in use, mouthguards should be kept clean and dry and there are some important maintenance tips that should be followed:

– Always rinse after use with toothbrush and toothpaste
– Clean regularly with cool or lukewarm soapy water
– Never expose the mouthguard to direct sunlight or rinse in hot water

When visiting the dentist for a check-up, you should “bring your mouthguard for an evaluation” and a thorough cleaning. Damaged or ill-fitting mouthguards will not be fully effective in protecting teeth and gums and should be replaced immediately.
