Mouth Cancer Action Month
This November is Mouth Cancer Action Month, a campaign which aims to save lives by promoting prevention and early detection of oral cancers.
It is recognised that approximately 84% of oral cancer cases can be detected early by a dental health professional.
Dental professionals are well placed to identify mouth cancer at an early stage and provide preventative advice to patients.
As Dr Adyl Asani explains in this video (shot pre-Covid), there lots of different signs and symptoms to look out for:
• A red or white patch in the mouth that doesn’t rub off;
• An ulcer that doesn’t heal after 3 weeks;
• Lumps, bumps, or swelling around the jaw, neck or around the mouth.
As a specialist referral centre that is dedicated to working in patient partnership, it is important to remember regular oral cancer screenings really do need to be carried out as any sign of cancer can be successfully treated if caught early enough.
Mouth Cancer is on the rise, so it’s important to visit your dentist regularly.

WHICH DATES IN NOVEMBER ARE YOU HOSTING THIS EVENT?
There are currently 2 dates planned in November: Thursday 18th and Thursday 25th November 2021.
During this time, you’ll be able to meet with our Hygienist who will be performing both the oral cancer check-up, and Airflow stain removal.
CAN I CHOOSE MY APPOINTMENT TIME ON EITHER OF THESE DATES?
We are currently advising patients to register their interest with their preferred dates. At this point, our front of house team will call and offer you a convenient appointment time.
It is our duty of care for our patients, and staff members, to ensure we adhere to all Covid requirements, so we ask all patients to register their interest and await confirmation and an appointment time, rather than walk-in to our clinic.
DO I HAVE TO BE A REGISTERED PATIENT WITH TWENTYONEDENTAL?
Not at all. To support Mouth Cancer Action Month, this is a complimentary service we are offering registered, and non-registered patients.
CAN I DISCUSS ANY DENTAL CONCERNS I MAY HAVE DURING MY APPOINTMENT?
Absolutely. Our Patient Treatment Advisor will be present during your visit, so any questions you may have are welcomed.
