Oral Bacteria and Cancer Concerns

The presence of certain kinds of oral bacteria can have more serious results than just gum disease. Bacteria are necessary to keep teeth and gums healthy. But too much of the wrong types have been linked to serious medical issues including pancreatic cancer.

This is because the oral bacteria can migrate into the body and have damaging effects on the:

  • Heart and lungs
  • Pancreas
  • Blood quality and circulation

Avoiding gum disease is important and regular check-ups at the dentist will help prevent this occurring. There currently exists “no routine screening test” for pancreatic cancer and eliminating harmful bacteria is a positive move in avoiding this condition.
